Description EWC2018: General Session

Promoting Resilience in Young Children Exposed to Adversity: The Role of Early Care and Education

In this keynote presentation, Dr. Brenda Jones Harden will focus on the benefits of early care and education for children exposed to early adversity. Specifically, the presentation will address the role of early care and education providers in promoting resilience in young children experiencing adversity.

Current evidence has underscored the impact of early adversity on a host of developmental outcomes for young children, as well as later indices of health, mental health, and life course well-being. Early childhood interventions have been found to ameliorate the effects of early adversity on children's outcomes, including home visiting and parenting programs, as well as early care and education.

Goal: To increase the knowledge of early care and education providers about their role in supporting positive outcomes for children exposed to early adversity.
